1980 – First Major ARPANET Outage
The ARPANET, the precursor to the
modern Internet, stops functioning for about four hours after the network’s
routing tables are corrupted by a malfunctioning Interface Message Processor
(IMP).
1994 – HotWired launched bringing
with it the first large quantity sales of banner ads. AT&T, Zima, MCI,
Volvo, Club Med and 1-800-COLLECT all plunked down for the privilege.
1999 – Dell PC Sales Were #1
Dataquest, a company that monitors
PC sales, has shown a trend that Dell had maintained a 5% lead over Apple for 2
consecutive quarters. Therefore, Dell had become #1 in computer sales for 1999.
Of course, a recent report mentioned that Apple could now buy Dell if it so
inclined.
2005 – The Europe Space Agency
launched its first satellite, a micro-satellite called the SSETI Express
Satellite, designed and built by European students.
