1991 – First E-mail Sent from Space
Using
a Mac Portable aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis, the first e-mail from space
is sent to Earth. Two astronauts on the spacecraft, James Adamson and Shannon
Lucid, wrote, “Hello Earth! Greetings from the STS-43 Crew. This is the first
Applelink from space. Having a GREAT time, wish you were here, …send cryo and
RCS! Hasta la vista, baby, …we’ll be back!” the message was transmitted to the
Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.
2008 – Apple Clone Psystar Counter-sues Apple
Psystar
came on the scene earlier in the year with a machine that would contain
Windows, Linux or Mac software. Of course, this has not been without
controversy. Apple finally put together a lawsuit, but instead of Psystar

2009 – Snow Leopard Released; The End of
AppleTalk
Apple
releases Mac OS X 10.6, “Snow Leopard” for their Macintosh computers. Snow
Leopard was an important release as it was the first to drop support for
PowerPC-based Macs and focus optimization for the Inter processor-based Macs.
The networking protocol that Apple had used since the 1980’s, AppleTalk, was
also discontinued in Snow Leopard. AppleTalk was the first true plug-and-play
networking protocol and during its heyday in the late 80’s, AppleTalk was the
most widely used networking protocol in the world.
