1963 – One of the most famous 8mm home
movies ever recorded was filmed on a Model 414 PD Bell and Howell in Dealey
Plaza in downtown Dallas, Texas. The Zapruder film showed President John F.
Kennedy and Governor John Connally being shot.
1994 – Sega Saturn Released
The Sega
Saturn is released featuring 2 28.6 MHz processors running 32 bit. It had 2
video display processors, QSound surround and 2 MB of memory, with 1.5 MB of
video memory. It went for 44,880 Yen, or $450.
1995 – Toy Story Changes the
Movies
Walt
Disney Pictures releases the Pixar Animation Studios production Toy Story, the
first major motion picture that is created completely by computer-generated
animation. A breakthrough film, Toy Story set the standard for all future
computer animation films to follow and catapulted Pixar into a household name.
2005 – Xbox 360 Is Released to
the North American Market
Microsoft’s Xbox 360, the second in the Xbox line, is released in the US
and Canada after a viral marketing campaign and intense hype. Initially,
eighteen titles were available at launch, and of those, call of Duty 2 was the
best seller for the new console. An updated version of Xbox Live, which allowed
online multi-player gaming and media streaming, was a major selling point for
the 360, one of the top-selling consoles of all time. The 360’s main
competitors were Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s Playstation 3, all of which were 7th
generation video game consoles. Its successor, the Xbox One, was released 8 years
later.
