1995 – France Conclude Nuclear Weapon Tests
France concludes a series of
nuclear weapons tests in the South Pacific. In a controversial move, French
President Jacques Chirac had lifted a moratorium on testing. Most countries
test weapons with computer simulations instead of actual bomb drops, but France
claimed that tests that had been suspended several years earlier left the
country without sufficient data to conduct future tests on computers.
1999 – Jeff Bezos Named Person of the Year
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is named
Person of the Year by Time Magazine.
2001 – HotJobs Acquire by Yahoo
Yahoo announced that they will
acquire 98.6 percent of the outstanding stock to HotJobs. They bought it for
$10.50/share for $436 million. They overbid Monster.com for the site.
Ironically, Yahoo! ended up selling HotJobs to Monster on Feb 3, 2010 for $225
million.
