1894 – The Birth of Wireless
“Wireless” is born when Guglielmo Marconi sends a radio wave three-quarter of a mile. Three years later the Marconi Company will successfully communicate “ship to shore” over a distance of twelve miles. Marconi’s work leads to the commercialization and proliferation of most of the radio technologies we know today.
1946 – The US launched its second V-2 rocket at White Sands Proving Ground, which became the first successful launch of large rocket on US soil. The rocket climbed straight up then pitched to the north reaching an altitude of 71 miles and impacted about 35 miles uprange.

1954 – Texas Instruments Introduces New Transistor
A silicon-based junction transistor, perfected by Gordon Teal of Texas Instruments Inc., brought the price of this component down to $2.50. A Texas Instruments news release from May 10, 1954, read, “Electronic ‘brains’ approaching the human brain in scope and reliability came much closer to reality today with the announcement by Texas Instruments Incorporated of the first commercial production of silicon transistors kernel-sized substitutes for vacuum tubes.”
1960 – The nuclear-powered USS Triton submarine arrived in Groton, Connecticut, after completing the first completely submerged circumnavigation of Earth.
2001 – TAT-14 Begins Service
TAT-14, the Transatlantic cable begins commercial service. A dual, bi-directional ring configuration using Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplex (DWDM) – Sixteen wavelengths of STM-64 per fiber pair. It carried 640 Gbps, and connected Germany, the UK, Denmark, France, and the Netherlands with the US.
2011 – Google announced its Open Hardware Platform and the Google Music service which would eventually become Google Play Music.
